freedom

January 15, 2011

although slavery was abolished 150 years ago, there are more slaves than ever before. about every three minutes, the time it takes you to read this post, another child will be forced into some kind of slavery. its estimated that around the world about 27 million people are bonded to slavery. my english class and youth group are both trying not only to lower this statistic, but raise awareness. did you know that today tens of thousands of slaves will be working in America as prostitutes, cleaning houses, or working on farms? shocking isn’t it? that in our own backyard people are enslaved into jobs that our are worst nightmare. this morning i woke up at 7:30. i had to study for my english final and get ready in 20 minutes. i thought that was my worst nightmare.

my english teacher divided my class into teams, each team getting a different region in the world that is effected by slavery. and just so you know, that’s everywhere but Greenland and Iceland (where no cases have been reported). my group, got northern and eastern Africa. if your feeling compassionate today, leave a comment, send me an email, chat me on facebook, and you can help free slaves and be part of a reverse raffle. :) whats better than that?!

also— my youth group is working with an amazing organization called city team. right now we’re freeing sex slaves in indonisia. it costs about $500 to free a slave, and we’ve freed about 25 so far. talk to anyone in paradigm to see how you can get involved!

I am so proud of you and the compassion you have for those oppressed, whatever the oppression may be. You are so fortunate to be involved with a Youth Group and an English class that cares about helping those who are otherwise helpless. Keep up the good work. God’s continued blessing on you and the works you do.
