reading.

March 23, 2011

lately. i’ve been obsessed with reading. like all i want to do is read! when i wake up, random times at school, when i get home from school, i even log off facebook sometimes to read. it helps that its been rainy and grey here. for english class, i read The Help by Kathryn Stockett, which I highly recommend. one of the best books i’ve read since Harry Potter! it gave an intimate look into the thoughts and lives of african american maids or help, in the south during the 1960’s. normally i’m not crazy about historical fiction, but this book was both insanely funny and heartwarming.  i also read The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis (hellooo new favorite author). okay. i don’t even have words to describe this book. simply said. it blew my mind. i talked about it to everyone around me for weeks. this book opened up my eyes to things i didn’t even know were there. i could go on and on with the insanity of this book, but i’ll let ya read it yourself! now, i’m reading Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller. my friends cody & michelle gave me this book earlier this year before they moved to Iraq. i started reading it, but was too caught up in school work to finnish. i picked it up at the beginning of this week and can’t put it down. the subtitle explains it as “nonreligious thoughts on christian spirituality”, but its opening my eyes (just like screwtape) to things i didn’t even know! the author is witty, and each chapter is filled with personal stories, which i love. i highly recommend all of these books. if you read them, please let me know what you think!!

heres a quote from Blue Like Jazz that’ll get you thinkin. “some people skip through life; some people are dragged through it. i sometimes wonder whether we are moving through time or if time is moving through us.”

ps. earlier this week, kenzie and i broke out the hasselblad. you can’t tell, but its pourin!

soon we will figure out how to meter pictures. its harder than it looks.

ps lovee the blue like jazz quote. reminds me of the part in screwtape when he talks about how a man works, trying to find his place in the world….when really the world is finding its place in him. YES.
